Bike Box is on Daily Candy!

We got a pick on Daily Candy! Check out their post here -->  http://ow.ly/2gfqd

There have been several interesting shows and people through the space thus far. For us, one of the more interesting people Bike Box brought into the gallery has been David Gagnon, of Aris Games. His research team at University of Wisconsin’s Games, Learning and Society research group created the technology behind Bike Box. Be on the look out for future uses of this technology. We find it very inspirational that academic researchers in gaming are creating compelling, graphically interesting, experimental mobile applications. In fact, Devotion views this kind of research in the highest regard and hopes to find other developers who are working outside the corporate paradigm to advance the use of this technology in the hands of artists and activists.

Along these lines, we'd like to share Golan Levin's thoughts with you on the importance of the inclusion of artists in scientific and technological research.

Bike Box Geo-tagged Tours start at 2pm Saturday, July 17th!

As part of their AIRtime@Devotion exhibition, Bike Box, Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown will lead geo-tagged bike tours through Brooklyn at 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Bike Box is a mobile-media bicycle library and interactive installation housed at Devotion Gallery, allowing participants to check out cheap, durable, technology-enhanced bikes and a free open source iPhone application developed for this installation. As participants pedal around central Brooklyn, they are able to contribute site-specific audio through the iPhone application, as well as listen to a curated collection of geo-specific sounds provided by a variety of local land-use experts, historians, poets, artists, and other interpreters. Bike Box hopes to explore and give participants access to the layers of lived experience, personal anecdote, and history that are piled up invisibly on every street corner and city block.
Bike Box Geo-tagged Tours take originate at Devotion Gallery (54 Maujer Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11206) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday July 17th, Sunday July 18th, Saturday July 24th, and Sunday July 25th.
Admission is free and open to the public.

Yoxi launches competition to increasing bike traffic in NYC

Yoxi is a new site to encourage creative solutions to social problems. The first brief faces teams of designers against each other and challenges them to come up with ideas to increase bike traffic in NYC. We like the way the Urban Futurists think! Check out their ideas here and vote for them to survive in this competition> http://pilot.yoxi.tv/the-pitch-2

"In an effort to create change in how people view cycling as part of their lifestyle, Urban Futurists are proposing an iPhone application to transition from being a recreational cyclist to a social one. The app functions as a game, where you can compete with friends, earn rewards and find additional motivation through shared experience to get you cycling more often."

AIRTime kicks off tonight!!

We are so excited that Free 103.9's AIRTime kicks off tonight. The gallery is buzzing away with radio channels selected at random from the sheer genius which is considered American AM talk radio. Zach created a piece of custom software to scan the channels and cut between them when the presenters pause between phrases.
